A TRIO of York squash starlets helped Yorkshire to a hat-trick of Inter County titles at Pontefract.

Poppie Jaram starred in the under-15s girls' triumph, Ophelia Watson figured in the U13s girls' win and Joe Twigge shone as the U17s boys' team won their category.

The three teams qualified for the finals weekend by winning two previous rounds in October and November.

Twigge won 3-0 in the semi-finals as Yorkshire beat Sussex and he also prevailed 3-0 in the frinal against Hampshire in the White Rose youngsters' 3-1 victory.

Jaram was a 3-0 winner against Hertfordshire in the last four and, despite her 3-0 defeat in the final, Yorkshire beat Essex 3-2.

Watson won 3-0 in group matches against Yorkshire 2 and Cambridgeshire, but missed out on the third group game and then sat out the final against Kent as her team won 3-0.

Meanwhile, Jaram and Watson have been selected to play for North East England - a combined Yorkshire, Northumberland, Durham and Cleveland side this weekend.

They will play in the regional finals in Warwickshire.
