A HIGH five haul of medals was bagged by East York TAGB Tae Kwon Do Club at the British Championships.

A contingent from the club returned from the Worcester competition with three silver medals and two bronze medals.

Brad and Zac Lightfoot, both aged ten, and nine-year-old Harry Cook, who make up the York Vikings Tag Team, fought their way to the final in their category and narrowly missed out on gold.

Their silver medal success was matched by the Lightfoot’s younger sibling, Ashleigh, who won five out of six rounds to also finish as runner-up in the individual sparring.

Claire Munro was a silver medallist in the individual sparring, while Ollie Richardson and Cook both took bronze medals.

Many of the medallists have been with the club since it started three-and-a-half years ago and are on their way to becoming black belts.

Club instructor Gavin Cook (3rd Dan) hailed an "impressive" set of results and added: "Because of its high-kicking fast-paced style, Tae Kwon Do is a thoroughly modern way of getting fit and healthy.

“It's worth considering after all the Christmas excesses. Tae Kwon Do is also something the whole family can do.”

East York TKD are based at Stamford Bridge and have been going from strength to strength over the last three years.

The club started a new training night in Beverley on Wednesdays and next year there will be another training night at Archbishop Holgate's School in York on Tuesdays. Beginners will train from 6pm to 7pm, with higher grades and seniors from 7pm to 8pm.

In January, the club will be hosting their second masterclass with Great Britain squad member Jacky White. The sessions give students a chance to learn sparring skills and techniques.
