GIRLS’ football is blooming at Bishopthorpe White Rose.

The Moor Lane-based club has seen the number of girls playing junior football increase seven-fold in the last two years.

White Rose started with only one girls’ team two years ago, with ten youngsters playing at under-11s level.

This season, Bishopthorpe White Rose have entered five teams from U10s to U13s in the City of York Girls’ Football League.

They also have more than 75 players registered with the club.

Last season, the club’s U12s won the City of York Girls’ Football League Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out against league champions Brayton Belles in the final at Poppleton.

Web Adventure Park, a multi-activity play park in Wigginton Road, has supported girls football in Bishopthorpe since the first team was formed.

The club’s strip has recently been redesigned, with new kits paid for by a generous sponsorship package from Web Adventure Park.

The new purple strip is a return to the traditional Bishopthorpe colours and the same style will be worn by all the junior teams.

Coach Josh Wong said: “The girls have made great strides over the last past two seasons with all aspects of their game.

“They are a very enthusiastic group and have been wearing their new kits with pride.

“Generous sponsors like the Web Adventure Park and the extremely supportive parents we have make a real difference to the quality of what we can offer at the club.”

Janice Dunphy, managing director of Web Adventure Park, said: “As an organisation, we love seeing children being active and having fun.

“It is fantastic to see the sheer number of girls at Bishopthorpe doing just this with their football on a Saturday morning.

“We are very proud to support them and all the volunteers who help manage and train the teams.”

The club are actively growing their provision of girls’ football and would welcome new players aged between eight and 13 for their girls’ teams.
