YORK City Baths Club swimmers excelled in the Harrogate gala, where, out of 169 events swum by YCBC 37 competitors, no fewer than 148 personal bests were achieved.

Clean sweeps of improved personal bests were recorded by nine-year-old Toby Mayfield (from three swims); 10-year-old Caitlin Parsons (five swims); 11-year-olds Amy Durrant (four swims) and Maya Appleyard (four swims); 12-year-olds Bethany Barrett (seven swims), Elise Langan (four swims), Nikki Merrett (four swims) and Jack Mayfield (eight swims); 13-year-olds Jade Kendrew (four swims) and Sam Whittaker (four swims); 14-year-olds Hannah Baker (seven swims), Alex Scadding (seven swims), Conor Hargreaves (six swims) and Alex Riches (four swims); plus 16-year-old Ben Nicholson (four swims).

Morwenna Talling achieved five ‘A’-grade finishes, with four in the top four places.

In the ‘B’ grade, Alex Scadding gained top or second place in each of his seven swims, while fellow 14-year-old Charisse Charlton had an impressive nine ‘A’-grade finishes. She was never out of the top seven places.

Meanwhile, the club’s swimmers also gained 12 speeding tickets at the Minster Meet in Beverley.

Daisy Jackson swam four events and gained two speeding tickets with two ‘B’ grade results, while Toby Mayfield gained one ticket and two ‘B’ grades. Ben Gibbs achieved ‘B’ grades in all five events and three top six places as well.

Out of the 79 swims by YCBC, no less than 62 were personal bests led by Meghan Scadding, who PB’d in all her five swims, taking more than eight seconds of her 100m IM time.
