Poppleton Tennis Club will open their 2010 season by celebrating the award of the Lawn Tennis Association’s ClubMark.

This award recognises the high standard of the club’s facilities, and the quality of coaching at the club. Poppleton is one of only three tennis clubs within the York and district area to receive this prestigious award.

Said coach Belinda Turnbull: “We are delighted to get this award, and are looking forward to welcoming new young members this season.

“We have junior teams playing in events from under-8s to under-18s.”

A total of 150 youngsters are catered for at Poppleton TC, who also boast nearly 150 adult members. They field teams in the mixed, men’s and women’s leagues.

There are three floodlit all-weather courts and three artificial grass courts.

Chairman Tony Willey said: “We are proud to receive this award which recognises the club’s commitment to the development of tennis within our community.

“We hope this will encourage other people, young and old, to take up the game.”
