David Lloyd and Poppleton both claimed big division one wins as the Tyke Petroleum Men’s League enters the home stretch.

Lloyd were bolstered by under-18 AEGON County Cup champion Will Spencer, who partnered Tom Walker to 3-24, in an 11½-point mauling of Wigginton.

Playing his first match this season, Dom Shread paired up with Nick Turnbull to a maximum and 28 games as 2012 champions Poppleton thrashed Pocklington by the same score.

Contenders Rowntree Park started brightly but had to cling on against Dunnington, settling for a narrow 58-50, 7½-point result, thanks to 3-29 from Ian MacAulay and Sam Davies. Pete Jones and James Ripley, with 3-28, spearheaded a tremendous win for Wetherby at holiday-depleted Fulford, who now join the relegation tussle.

In a fiercely-contested division five, leaders Riccall dropped to fourth as their rivals all won.

Fulford 2 enjoyed themselves at Bishopthorpe 2, with youngsters Pip Cook and Patrick Herriott unbeaten with 2-19. Captain Paul Ruff maxed with Tom Craddock in their 10½-1½ win. It was tough going for new leaders David Lloyd 2 at Strensall, but a 20-16 final round stole a tight match by 56-52 and 8½ table-topping points.

An 11-1 final rubber from Ollie Hicks and Jason May, earned Heworth the win at Boston Spa 2, after they trailed 37-35. In division four, Cawood battled visitors Sutton-on-Derwent 2 to a 6-6 points draw, despite fielding only two pairs.

Cawood won all six of the contested rubbers, and the played games by 49-23. The 36 games Cawood forfeited gave Sutton the team bonus to add to the three points conceded by the absent Cawood pair. Adam Raistrick and Tim Tillett returned 3-25.

Starbeck claimed 21 points from 24 in their double-header against York.

In division two, Jim Haddleton and Paul Evison nailed 3-22, as Starbeck 1 wrung 9½ points from only 62 games won against York 2. Starbeck 2 were indomitable in the division four mirror tie away to York 3, dropping just a half-point. Jonny McCully debuted with Kevin Lodge for 3-26.

There was a tremendous result for Heworth 2 at home to run away division six leaders Cliffe. Despite a merciless 3-30 from Cliffe’s first pair, Dave Tomlinson and Ian Crowther, Heworth’s never-say-die battlers took a final round 22-14 to pinch the team bonus 56-52, and the match by 8-4. There was a bittersweet result for third-placed Wigginton 3, at home to Sheriff Hutton.

Wiggy came from behind to grab a share of the team bonus, 54-54, but lost the rubbers 5½-3½.

Former Wigginton junior Harry Abnett twisted the knife with 3-24 for Sheriff against his former club, partnering Louis Cox. Selby finally bagged a win, 63-45 at Pocklington, who replace them at the bottom of division six. John Duffy debuted with Marc Hodge, to return 3-25.
