WITH Wimbledon luring players away, David Lloyd took charge at the top of Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League division one by storming to victory at depleted Fulford, writes Ian Hillman.

Ed Barker-Wyatt joined the Lloyd line-up to record a maximum 3-26 with captain Andy Holmes.

Previous leaders Rowntree Park were hit for six at Wigginton, losing the rubbers 6-3 and the match 63-45. Ben Storey and Ben Walker battled James Denmark and Ian MacAulay to a draw, and ended unbeaten with 2½-23.

In the division three mirror tie, Wigginton 2 did not lose a single rubber in avenging their opening day defeat against Rowntree Park 2. John Long and Adam Gray scored the perfect 3-21.

York hosted two Boston Spa teams, with mixed results. Division three leaders York 1 trounced Boston Spa 1 10-2. Ollie Gardner and Nick Linfoot got 3-24.

The drum-tight division eight match went to the wire. The rubbers were shared, but Spa 3 pinched the team bonus 55-53 against York 4. Terry Donovan and David Lester were unbeaten for Spa with 2½-22, whilst Mal Pringle and Greg Bowler for York, went unbowed with 2-20. Copmanthorpe edged the face-off against second-placed Starbeck at the top of division two.

Cop’s first two pairs took five rubbers and 46 games between them in a 57-51 win for eight points.

All three Los brothers hit the max. Louis partnered Tom Hitchenor for 3-26, and Zak and Max Los teamed up for 3-27 as Sutton hit top gear, leaving hosts Bishopthorpe with just a point. Starbeck 2 had a big win at home to Copmanthorpe 2 in division four.

Darryl Pawson and John Berger maxed with 3-25. Andy Ivel and Mark Williamson were unbeaten with 2½-25 for visiting Rufforth, who swapped places with hosts Poppleton 3.

Division five leaders Fulford 2 tumbled at David Lloyd 2, who were bolstered by Mark Bland, debuting this year and returning 3-23 with Richard Tasker.

Riccall took top spot with a big win at home to Strensall. Andy and Pat Woodward maxed with 28 games for Riccall. Crushing 12-0 wins for both Cliffe and Stamford Bridge 2, took them clear at the top of division six.

David Latimer meshed well with James Chambers, returning 3-27 for New Earswick against Pock 2.
