York 1 made it six wins out of six as they beat top-flight newcomers David Lloyd 1 76-32 in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League.

The victors were inspired by the ever-reliable partnership of Louise Lister and Wendy Stirke who clinched 32 games.

Castlegarth 1 and Dunnington 1 stayed in touch at the top with comprehensive victories over Bishopthorpe 1 and York 2 respectively.

In each match, all three victorious couples took more than 20 games, led by Sue Perkins and Helen Robinson for Castlegarth 1 and Karen Mitchell and Alex Bolam for Dunnington 1.

Poppleton 1’s good form continued in a closely-fought match with Fulford 1. Mother and daughter Belinda and Rebecca Turnbull teamed up to be top scorers for Poppleton 1 in a 57-51 victory.

The top of the table clash in division two saw Pocklington 1 maintain their unbeaten run and replace Dunnington 2 as leaders after beating them 71-37, with 28 games scored by Ruth Hill and Fiona Lambert.

Boston Spa remain in third place after edging past Wigginton 60-48, while Castlegarth 2 inflicted a fifth defeat on struggling Copmanthorpe 1.

Rufforth and Cliffe continue to fight it out at the top of division four as both had comfortable 79-29 wins.

Denise Reilly and Christine Edmond claimed 31 games for Rufforth against Bishopthorpe 2, while Jane Pemberton and Liz Bramley bettered that total by a couple of games for Cliffe at Copmanthorpe 2 to lift them into second place.

Fulford 3 beat bottom team Heworth with a good all-round team performance led by captain Carolyn Taylor and Liz Paxman.

David Lloyd 2 top division five on games difference, helped by a heavy 84-24 defeat of Sheriff Hutton, with Jenny Walker and Liz Taylor taking 31 games.

Knaresborough 2 held on to second place after a close battle with New Earswick, which they won 59-49.

Bubwith took their first win of the season, beating an under-strength Cawood, while Dunnington 3 cruised to victory over Copmanthorpe 3.

Division six saw Wilberfoss upset table-toppers Bishopthorpe 3 to claim a 57-51 victory as Stamford Bridge kept the pressure on with a 65-43 win over Dunnington 4.

Top scorers in the division were Jo Allerton and Lauren Caley as they took 32 of Poppleton 3’s 74-game haul over Appleton Roebuck, who were hampered by the withdrawal of one of their pairs through injury.

In division three, Poppleton 2 secured their first victory of the season against Wistow to move off the bottom. Chris Howat and Marilyn Almgill scored 28 games, including a 12-0 win, as Appleton Roebuck 1 beat Poppleton 2 in a rearranged fixture.

Pocklington 2 are top despite their match falling to the weather.
