THERE are some new names on the divisional trophies at the end of the 33rd York and District Netball League season.

Haxby 1 won the division one trophy for the second time in the club's 27-year history, finishing 15 points ahead of runners-up Rufforth Arrows, who were only promoted last season.

Arrows finished level on points with Ladybirds A' who were without GA Trish Farrow for part of the second half of the season, Rufforth finishing second on goal average which had to be taken to two decimal points.

Haxby scored more than 1,000 goals for the second year running despite their regular GA Gemma Summerbell taking a year out to have a baby, and their reserve GA Lynn Officer, being out for most of the second half of the season due to a knee injury.

Captain Emma Caywood filled the gap, linking up with regular shooter Gemma Gibson to deny any other team in the top division victory.

Stamford Vikings A' just missed out on promotion last year, but clinched the second division title this time to return to the top flight after a five-year absence.

Although having beaten runners-up Haxby 4 twice in the campaign, Elvington 1 has to settle for third. Haxby 4's promotion mean they become the first club to have four teams in the same division.

The top three placings in division three were decided in the final week of the season. Barlby A' looked to be clear winners until a wobble in the run-in but they took the title by one point from rivals Phoenix Ladies.

Barlby have been together for just over ten years now and were one of the first clubs to join the York league from the Selby area.

Division four winners Panthers clinched their third promotion in as many years, having changed their name from Osbaldwick 4. They lost only one match and finished well ahead of second placed Rufforth C' who beat Haxby 6 in their final game to pip Grey Horse to promotion.

Division five saw a young Rawcliffe 5 team go up the for the second year in a row. A product of the York Youth League the average age of the team is only 15.

Under the guidance of Margaret Long and Anne Coulthard they lost only one match and finished nine points ahead of their nearest rivals Elvington 3, who narrowly missed out on promotion last year.

Last season newcomers Hemingbrough found the going a bit tough but this time were unbeaten in 16 matches. Hemingbrough 1 finished clear winners in Division six, scoring more goals than any other team in that division and having the best defensive record.

Hemingbrough 2 will remain in division six after finishing fourth place.

Moving up as runners-up will be Rufforth E' - the third Rufforth team out of six to find themselves in second spot.

The new division seven title went to the wire with long-time leaders Tadcaster edged out by Elvington 4.

With four new clubs and ten new teams, the seven divisions catered for 65 teams. The new clubs were Tadcaster, Sherburn, Selby Sparks and NFU Mutual while Millers, Hemingbrough, Rufforth, Elvington, Railway Institute and Selby Ladies all expanded their team numbers.

The annual meeting and presentation evening was held last night at the Railway Institute Club, Acomb (7.30pm).
