York rally navigator Mark Casey has achieved another finish in his 2013 season on the Roger Albert Clark Rally.

The 29-year-old Wigginton resident teamed up with Lincolnshire’s Stewart Scott for their second attempt at the event which started from Pickering. Pre-event preparation was carried out by Motoscope in Northallerton.

Scott and Casey finished 29th overall and second in their class in the three-day, 500-plus mile rally in the driver’s Mk 1 Ford Escort RS2000.

The duo were assisted by Casey’s parents Glyn and Cath in a support vehicle and service crew James Hainsworth and Craig Brightmore of C & J Auto Services, from Thirsk.

Said Casey: “Our event was much better than last year when we slid into a ditch, suffered intercom problems and an alternator that would not charge.

“This time there were no major problems and to reach the finish was very satisfying. Our service crew worked tirelessly over the three days carrying out regular maintenance on the car, and can turn their hand to anything in order to keep the car going.”

After the first six night stages in Dalby Forest, they returned to Pickering in 45th overall position and fourth in class.

The following day saw stages at Duncombe Park, Croft Circuit, Hamsterley and Kielder Forest to an overnight halt at Carlisle with the pair then ascending to 35th overall and second in class.

The final day saw a frosty and slippery start in the Kielder Forest complex, including nearly sliding into a ditch on the first running of the ‘Florida’ special stage.

But as other competitors fell by the wayside, Scott kept the car on the straight and narrow, finishing in Brampton on the last day in tenth spot, pleased to have reached the end after three days of challenging competition.

Casey and Scott’s next event will be the Premier Historic Rally in Sherwood Forest starting on November 24.
