ORGANISERS of the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire have highlighted the role hundreds of volunteer marshals will play when Ryedale stages its annual off-road motorsports spectacular on September 27 and 28.

Spearheaded by the penultimate round of the MSA British Championship, competitors from across the country, and further afield, will descend on Pickering and the nearby North York Moors forest stages.

However, Leeds-based Trackrod Motor are keen to stress arguably the most important participants will be the people who give their time to ensure the rally runs smoothly.

The Motor Sports Association – the governing body of four-wheeled autosport – have designated 2013 as the Year of the Volunteer.

Trackrod Rally Yorkshire clerk of the course Rod Parkin said: “It’s often said that ‘it goes without saying that we couldn’t put the event on without marshals’.

“But it’s equally important that we do say it, so as to stress the absolutely vital role that their devotion and enthusiasm play in proceedings.”

At least 13 title races, including the MSA British Rally Championship (BRC), REIS-Get Connected BTRDA Rally Series and the West Wales Rally Spares RAC Championship, are included in the 36th staging of Trackrod MC’s premier rally.

The Friday sees many competitors taking on the challenge of Dalby Forest at night. The Historic Championship runners are closely followed by the BRC cars and Land Rovers.

Two special spectator venues – a redesigned ‘Woodyard’ and ‘Housedale’ – are located within the Dalby complex, each featuring a range of facilities open from around 8pm.

After an overnight halt the cars return, supplemented by a bumper entry of BTRDA contestants, to undertake the remaining stages, which include special viewing at Cropton, from 8.30am on Saturday.

Pre-paid tickets have been held at 2012 prices, with optional privilege parking closer to the action on some stages.

All tickets include a 48-page full colour programme, and will be available later in the year.
