CLIFTON Cycling Club are staging their third annual Come And Try Time Trial next month.

The York-based club will hold the event – aimed at getting more people involved in cycle racing – at Appleton Roebuck on Saturday, July 11, at 11am.

The time trial is aimed at first-time racers.

The course is a carefully chosen 4.9-mile circuit taking in Appleton Roebuck, Acaster Malbis and Acaster Selby.

A club spokesman said: “The event is aimed solely at cyclists who have never raced or never encountered life in a cycling club before, but wondered just what it actually feels like to race, flat out against the clock. Now they can find out.

“All that’s needed is a roadworthy bike – brakes, gears, tyres etc – comfortable clothing that’s preferably not too baggy, and be fit enough to ride for five miles.”

The course has been designed to take in quiet country lanes, but entrants should be aware the race is run on the public highway, roads are not closed and riders must be aware of other road users and obey the Highway Code at all times.

Headquarters is Appleton Roebuck village hall, where there will be refreshments.

The hall opens at 9.30am to sign on. Entry costs £2 for riders aged 18 and over and £1 for riders aged 13 to 17. All junior riders will need to hand in a signed CTT parental consent form.

The club recommends all riders wear a hard shell cycle helmet, while under-18s must wear a helmet.
