More course records fell in round three of the Clifton Cycling Club’s Thursday Time Trial Series following a return to the flat ten-mile circuit that is being used for six out of 12 events.

Triathlete Phil Graves (Clifton CC) smashed his own record, clocking a superb 20 minutes 48 seconds, nearly three minutes ahead of second-placed Mark Addinall (York Cycleworks RT), who, with 23-58, was also the fastest veteran in the 40+ category.

Donna James took the women’s course record, knocking 23 seconds off the previous best, with 27-21, just ahead of Virginie Baronnet (Clifton CC) who clocked 27-35 to take the lead in the women’s competition. Peter Ellwood, 14, leads the under-16s competition while 17-year-old mountain-biker Kieran Smith put in another impressive performance on the road to lead the junior competition. Among the veterans, Amanda Vipond represented the women’s V40 class with 34-10, while Tony Smith cemented his lead in the men’s 70+ age group.

This year’s series has seen a notable rise in the number of female competitors, with Clifton’s introductory rides to encourage more cyclists to sign up seemingly paying off.
