THE Redwood Park Winter Angling League title has gone to John Rostron.

The Guiseley-based angler topped the Bob-Co sponsored league standings at the Huby fishery with 36 points out of a maximum of 40.

Rostron consistently finished in the first two places across the ten matches of the league campaign.

Venue organisers Paul and Matthew Chappell tied for second place on 34 points, with the nod going to Paul due to a 9oz weight advantage.

Bob-Co Tackle also backed a pairs league, which was won by Rostron and Tom Padget.

The final match of the series was held on the Arc, and it proved to be a closely-fought contest.

Rostron needed to finish ahead of both Chappells to secure the title.

Fishing at peg 12, he caught the majority of his haul fishing a method feeder across to the far bank for a total of 41lb 10oz.

In second place was Easingwold’s Rik Guatt, who fished the same method from peg eight with similar results to bring in 40lb 10oz.

Match organiser Paul Chappell scraped into third place by a mere 4oz, edging out Padget with a pole-caught catch of 38lb 14oz.

Meanwhile, a new Nidd Hall coarse fishing competition will be held on Saturday, May 26.

The 24-peg contest will take place on the lake within the grounds of Nidd Hall in Harrogate. The 4.5-acre lake contains stocks of tench, carp, roach and perch.

Anglers will compete over five hours for a first prize of £200, second of £150 and third of £100.

A prize of £50 will be for the heaviest single fish, and there will be £50 for the winner of the peg lucky dip.

Anyone interested in taking part in the contest can register by phoning 01423 771598. The closing date for entries is Friday, April 27.
