YORK & District Amalgamation of Anglers are monitoring proposed work on the River Derwent.

The Environment Agency are looking to lower some of the weirs on the river with two, according to reports, expected to be done away with. This, according to the amalgamation, may affect the preservation of fish and spawn.

Work, meanwhile, of the Kirkham weir has encountered problems and been stopped.

The amalgamation further declared in its latest news-sheet that: “Trustees are aware of what is proposed and are keeping a close eye on the situation.”

York anglers have also been reminded that York University Boat Club will be holding races on the River Ouse between their club base in St Oswald’s Road and Kings Staith on Saturday, December 6.

Another reminder has been made by the amalgamation for members to advise the Waters Secretary of all night fishing sessions, complete with name, book number, date and venue to be fished.
