PAULINE ROOKS was a narrow winner of the under-70s section at the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers Veterans’ Match on Marley Pool at Laybourne Lakes.
Rooks, who holds the venue record with a 146lbs haul in five hours, headed the 28-strong field on Wednesday with 68lb 4oz from peg 37.
Stan Haigh was runner-up at peg 43 with 68lb, while John Miller came third with 50lb 6oz from peg 14. Fourth place went to Pete Webster with 50lb 2oz.
The over-70s section was won by Barry Richardson from peg eight with 76lb 12oz.
Keith Scofield was second with 53lb 6oz, while Mick Emmerson was third with 32lb 14oz. Dave ‘Doc’ Findlay was fourth with 24lb 4oz.
Meanwhile, junior anglers will take centre stage tonight at a match being held as part of the Festival of the Rivers, sponsored by City of York Council.
The match will be on the River Ouse at New Walk Terrace. The draw will be at 5pm with fishing from 6pm to 9pm.
Anyone under the age of 18 is welcome to take part.
