STUART HOLT took the honours at the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers’ First Sunday Open on the River Ouse.

The Aireborough & District rod weighed in with 33lbs from peg 15 – better known as the ‘pipe hole’ – including a 5lb carp.

Holt, who fished red maggot feeder, also netted bream, skimmers and roach as he headed a field of 36.

Second place went to Mirfield angler Ricky Bonas, stationed next to Holt at peg 14. Fishing feeder maggot and worm, his 21lb 14oz haul included three bream, the best of which weighed 5lb.

Glen angler Mick Shaw was third with 21lb 2oz, including 12 skimmers, while Andy Miller was fourth with 20lb 13oz.

One of the section winners, Ian Bates, scaled an 11lb catch which included a 10lb carp.

Stu Thompson won the under-70s section of the amalgamation’s midweek veterans’ match at Laybourne Lakes with 14lb 4oz.

The over-70s category went to Barry Richardson, with 13lb 8oz.

The Junior Angling Championships will be held on the Ouse at New Walk tonight from 6pm to 9pm.
