JON WOOLDRIDGE has been in fine form for Bootham ‘A’ in division one of the Northern Powergrid York and District Table Tennis League, writes John Temple.

He won all his singles as his side went down 7-3 to Holgate ‘A’, and was also unbeaten in a draw with Crescent ‘B’.

Coneysthorpe ‘A’ continue to set the pace at the top after Martin Lowe and Ashley Hodgson saw them to an 8-2 win over RI ‘B’. Holgate ‘A’ beat Coneysthorpe ‘B’ 6-4, Aidan Ranftler and Graham Hatfield proving too strong.

RI ‘C’ head division two, as Tim Smith proved too strong for a depleted RI ‘E’, guiding his side to an 8-2 victory. The losers bounced back with a win by the same score at Bootham ‘D’, who have dropped into a relegation spot. Mark Blackburn and Dave Jackson excelled for RI.

In division three, University ‘B’ have hit a purple patch and they enjoyed a win over RI ‘H’ with Tristan Curteis unbeaten in an 8-2 success.

Curteis and Martin Brown saw the students to a shock 7-3 win over Shepherds ‘D’ who were knocked off the top of the table.

Holgate ‘C’ are the new leaders after thumping RI ‘G’ 9-1, though teenager Matt Roberts inflicted Bob Young’s second defeat of the campaign.

Robert Plant was on song as Bootham ‘F’ edged out Holgate ‘D’, the losers now in danger of dropping to the basement.
