YORK City Baths Club can boast three Age-group County Champions.

The club sent a 43-strong squad to the Yorkshire Swimming Association Short course Championships at Ponds Forge, in Sheffield, and returned some eye-catching performances.

Two of the County Champions are in the 11-year-old girls’ category, with Ellen Suddes winning the 100 metres breaststroke, 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley, while Annie Johnston struck gold in the 100m backstroke. The pair also gained second places, giving them nine of the 15 medals available in their age group.

York’s other County Champion was Megan Russell, in the 12-year-old girls’ 100m butterfly, while she also achieved three top ten finishes in her other events.

There were also podium finishes for Carrie Suddes (second in 100m breaststroke), Sarah Lambert (second in 100m backstroke), Lucy Nicholson (third in 100m medley) and Sam Russell (third place in 100m medley).

Chloe Buck also claimed three first place finishes in the EAD S9 category for swimmers with a disability.

That took the club’s medal total to 17, while 19 swimmers have qualified for the North-East Regional Championships.
