NEW Earswick Swimming Club are celebrating two major awards.

The York-based club have been handed Swim21 Accreditation in teaching swimming, skill development and masters swimming, as well as Sport England’s ClubMark.

Swim21 Accreditation is a quality mark, which recognises clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for members, while ClubMark is a cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections.

Wendy Emmerson, the president of the Yorkshire Swimming Association, presented the Swim21 Accreditation to club chairman Martin Richards, who was accompanied by director of teaching Ann Reed, director of coaching James Richards and masters secretary and coach Alan Betteridge.

New Earswick said they were the first club in the city to achieve accreditation in skill development and masters swimming.

That means children will now be able to progress to the next stage of their swimming career without having to move to a skill development club outside York.

Martin Richards said: “New Earswick Swimming Club has come a long way over the past three years, and we have finally been rewarded for our efforts.

“The learn-to-swim schools in and around York will now be able to recommend a quality marked club for their swimmers as the next progression.”

There are still vacancies for competitive swimmers on the club’s training scheme.
