A MASTERFUL medal haul was New Earswick Swimming Club's plunder from the Yorkshire Masters at Scarborough.

A team of 11 swimmers attended the meet in the absence of coach Alan Betteridge and won four gold, seven silver and five bronze.

In the 18 to 24 age group, the medals were flowing for Ian Smithson, Mark Baldry and Emily Broadbent.

Smithson took gold in 50 metre backstroke and 100m freestyle, plus silver in 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m medley.

Baldry took gold in the 100m backstoke and bronze in the 50m backstroke, while Broadbent won bronze in the 100m backstroke.

In the 35 to 39 age group, Helen Taylor won gold in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, plus a bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Sarah Helstrip swam personal bests in 50m backstoke and the 50m breaststroke.

The 40 to 44 age group saw a masters debut for Andy Howden, who performed well in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.

Julie Oliver continued to impress with fantastic times in the 50m backstoke, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

Dave Norville then won silver in the 60 to 64 years 100m freestyle despite breaking his goggles.

The mens' 180 years+ team - including Richard Ellis, John Fox, Howden and Norville - missed out on the medals in the medley and freestyle relays.

The womens' 140 years+ relay team - Oliver, Helstrip, Jessica Sparnenn and Taylor - took bronze in the freestyle relay, missing the silver by 0.4 seconds.

The 180 years+ mixed medley relay won bronze medal with Oliver, Taylor, Howden and Norville, while the same team won silver in the freestyle relay.
