MEMBERS of New Earswick Swimming Club's senior team converged on Sheffield for the North East Region Youth And Senior Championships.

Bob Hunt broke the one minute barrier for the first time in the men's 100 metre freestyle when he clocked 59.49.

Patrick Good and Jonathon Woodford recorded personal best times.

Liam Killen got a personal best time in the men's 50m breaststroke when he finished 33rd in a time of 35.78.

Good and Woodford clocked personal bests in the 100m backstroke.

Good finished 26th in 1:12.06 and Woodford was 28th in 1:15.52.

In the 50m butterfly Killen (38th) edged out Good (39th) by 0.04 seconds.

Ian Smithson missed out on a place in the final of the men's 50m backstroke. Smithson's personal best time of 31.23 was only 0.51 seconds away from a final slot.

The youth medley team of Good (backstroke), Killen (breaststroke), Woodford (butterfly) and Hunt (freestyle) performed well to finish 13th in a time of 4:41.03.

Meanwhile, the youth freestyle team also performed well to finish 14th in a time of 4:08.00.
