YORK swimmer James Wilby will tonight race for a place in the final of the 200 metres breaststroke at the British Gas Championships in Sheffield.

The York City Baths Club star clocked two minutes 17.43 seconds in his heat at Ponds Forge this morning, earning him 12th place overall.

The final is scheduled for tomorrow night.

Yesterday, Wilby opened the championships with a personal best time in the heats of the 50m breaststroke, with his 29.61 seconds earning him 24th place overall.

The 19-year-old, from Strensall, will tackle the heats of his final event, the 100m breaststroke, on Saturday morning.
