ONE of boxing’s all-time greats is set to descend on York Racecourse.

Sports Media Promotions have agreed terms with legend of the ring Evander Holyfield to address what is sure to be a sell-out crowd on Knavesmire on Saturday, September 14, kicking off at 7.30pm.

The 50-year-old, known as The Real Deal, is the only four-time world heavyweight champion in history and was involved in some of the biggest fights of the 1990s.

The York audience will be regaled with tales from his star-studded career, including his two fights against Mike Tyson – the latter of which infamously became known as ‘The Bite Fight’ after Tyson took a chunk of Holyfield’s ear out after biting him in the third round,  and his two super contests with Lennox Lewis at the end of the decade.

With a professional record of 57 fights, 44 wins and 29 by knockout, he is ranked 77th on Ring Magazine’s list of the 100 greatest punchers.

Organiser Tony Dunn, a promoter who has organised audiences with the likes of Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard and Ricky Hatton, said: “It’s unlikely he would be coming over to Britain again so it is an exciting opportunity to listen to a legend of the ring.

“We are hoping York people will come and see him.”

The event will also include a compere, comedian, auction and a raffle.

Tickets, for the show and a fourcourse dinner, cost £50, or VIP tickets, which also include a photo opportunity with Holyfield, are £75.

For £100, a Gold VIP ticket will also include front row seats and a ticket to win Holyfield memorabilia. Only 50 of these are available.
