TOUCH rugby sessions are starting in Selby, being run by community rugby league coach Adam Prentis in conjunction with Selby Warriors ARLC.

Sessions will start on Monday, March 26, 6pm to 7pm, and continue for ten weeks, excluding Easter Monday, at the Warriors’ Foxhill Lane ground. A second venue is still to be confirmed.

Prentis said: “A simple yet exciting game, touch rugby promotes the fundamental skills of running, handling and support play, while developing the basic principles of attack and defence without the fear of getting hurt.

“Touch rugby is a minimal-contact version of the game, without rucks, mauls, scrums or lineouts, and where touching the player with the ball counts as a tackle.

“It’s suitable for men and women of all skills and experience, from people who have never touched a ball before to experienced club players.

“Social touch has been running across the country, including in York for the past two years now, and we hope to replicate it in Selby.”

Players can turn up on the night and be placed into teams. All are welcome, regardless of age, gender, ability or experience.

Sessions cost £2.50 each.
