DO you want to help shape the future of sport and active leisure in York?

Active York, who aim to enhance sport and leisure opportunities, are once again looking for five community representatives to join their executive board to champion issues affecting sport and physical activity in the city in the coming year.

The board also includes representatives from the spheres of higher education, professional sport, health, school sport and City of York Council.

Following changes to the Active York constitution last year, the five board places which are now up for grabs through annual election are available for people who represent the voluntary and community sector.

The nominees could come from a variety of backgrounds – playing, coaching, teaching, administering or publicising – but should have a “genuine enthusiasm and desire” to support community participation.

Their role on the board would be for an initial one-year period, with the option to stand for re-election in future years.

The Active York executive board will hold their annual general meeting on May 13, and the aim is to have the five community representatives in place by then.

Active York officials are appealing for anyone interested in getting involved, who thinks they can make a contribution to community sport, to put themselves forward for election.

Nominations can be made in the form of a written pen picture (maximum 200 words), which should summarise key sporting interests, achievements and personal skills.

All nominations should be forwarded to Jo Gilliland, Active York, 18 Back Swinegate, Swinegate Court, York YO1 8ZD, or emailed to jo.gilliland@york.gov.uk Further information is available by phoning Jo Gilliland on 01904 553434.

All applications should be received by 5pm on Thursday, April 1.

Individual pen pictures of nominees will be publicised in The Press and also displayed on the Active York website up until Friday, April 23.

York’s sporting community will be asked to vote for who they think should be their community sports sector representatives elected to the Active York board.
