YORK is currently hosting its first-ever Professional Squash Association competition.

The York Classic, at Dunnington Squash Club, is a PSA Closed Satellite event which is open to international and UK competitors.

The event is being held over two days - starting today and finishing tomorrow - and includes 16 players, many with official PSA world rankings.

Today's matches take place from 12.30pm to 3.30pm and later from 6pm. Tomorrow they again start at 12.30pm, with the final taking place at 8pm.

Although this is a new tournament for York, the club at Dunnington is developing a reputation for top-class squash.

As reported by The Press, their first team has just won the prestigious Yorkshire Premier League, regaining the title which was lost back in 2015.

This team has some of the UK’s most talented professional and amateur players, including world number 44 Chris Simpson and recent University of York graduate Ed Shannon, who is one York’s rising stars.

Attendance at the PSA event today and tomorrow is free, including for the final. Full details are at dunningtonsquashclub.co.uk/york-classic
