CITY of York Hockey Club's men's first team dropped to third in North League division one after conceding a late goal in a 3-3 draw at home to second-bottom Neston.

However, the Minster city side are eight games unbeaten and only three points off the top, although they have played one game fewer than leaders Lindum.

City started the game well and took the lead through Alex Cockram's strike into the top corner, and continued to control possession for much of the period, but Neston found an equaliser against the run of play just before the break.

The visitors were the quickest out of the blocks in the second half and took the lead with a fierce shot into the top corner of returning keeper Elliot Walker's net.

City stayed strong and kept themselves in the game, mounting pressure on the Neston back line. They eventually found their equaliser through man-of-the-match Jack Fletcher, who flicked the ball past the keeper following the breakdown of a short corner.

The hosts continued to push and had an abundance of opportunities which they failed to convert before finally regaining the lead through Tom Feasby in a goalmouth scramble.

With minutes remaining, City looked likely to finish the game with the maximum spoils, but Neston mounted a counter-attack and managed to squeeze the ball into the hosts' goal to share the spoils.

City of York II secured a routine 4-0 victory at Yorkshire League premier division strugglers Boston Spa II.

The visitors took the lead after only a minute when man-of-the-match Ben Mould hit home from an acute angle.

Dan Tompkins doubled their advantage when he converted Peter Bennett's pinpoint cross and, after the break, good link-up play between James Fitton and Mould saw the latter finish with a reverse-stick strike.

Dan Hyden added a fourth from close range in a game where City never looked threatened.

Both sides looked to secure possession early on, but City showed the greater initiative in pressing the visiting defence, and got their reward just before half-time when man-of-the-match Dave Rodgers converted a penalty corner.

The game was settled when Matthew Todd played a ball to the top of the 'D' for Mark Little to finish with a first-time sweep into the bottom corner.
