ACOMB Hockey Club's men's first team suffered their third successive defeat as they went down 3-0 at Airedale in Yorkshire League division two.

Despite playing with only 10 men, the Tangerines frustrated the home side with sound defence for the first quarter of an hour, thanks to Baz Whitfield, Matt Dickenson and Ryan Smith.

The numerical advantage, however, began to show and gaps appeared in the visiting back line, allowing the home side to open the scoring after 20 minutes.

Acomb had chances from penalty corners to level before half-time but failed to find the net.

With Airedale pressing, the Tangerine midfield had more room to breathe but struggled to find their forward line, and the hosts doubled their advantage with a near-post tap-in from a disputed penalty corner.

Airedale completed the scoring with a deflected effort past keeper Craig Brown, before Acomb had a chance at a consolation which flew over the bar.

Acomb Ladies ended a run of three consecutive draws in Yorkshire League division one - and extended their unbeaten sequence to eight games - with a 4-2 win over Northallerton.

The win took the Tangerines up to fourth, only two points behind second-placed Driffield II.

Acomb started strongly with Kerry Woods netting twice in the opening 20 minutes, and they finished the half pressing well through forwards Kerry Woods, Liz Harrison and player-of-the-match Hannah Yoward.

However, it was the visitors who scored next, clawing a goal back before half-time against the run of play.

The second period started with an increased tempo with both teams looking threatening, and Acomb doubled their advantage through Liz Harrison.

Midway through the half, Northallerton pulled a second goal back from a penalty corner to set up a nervy finish, but the hosts' pressure was rewarded with Wendy Watson's close-range strike to kill the game off.
