SIMON DYSON will have the weekend off to recuperate as he looks to build on recent improved form.

A bogey at the 16th hole of his second round meant the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace missed the cut at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. But he at least rediscovered a bit of the old consistency as he battles for form following longstanding wrist problems.

The 36-year-old had been on course to make his second successive cut on the European Tour having carded a one-under-par first round at Dundonald Links after firing three birdies to counter two bogeys.

He was level on day two, too, as he headed toward the clubhouse, after cancelling out two bogeys with birdies among a raft of pars.

But the dropped shot on 16 meant he ended the tournament on level par, with the cut coming at one-under.

Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello, having gone into the weekend on two under, stormed to victory after following a third-round 69 with a stunning eight-under-par 64, before beating England’s Callum Shinkwin in a play-off.

York-born Dyson will not be in action this weekend as he sits out The Open, which takes place at Royal Birkdale.
