YORK golfer Simon Dyson managed an improvement on day two of the Lyoness Open in Austria but still missed the cut by some distance after finishing his two rounds on seven over par.

Dyson carded a disappointing five-over-par first round at the Diamond Country Club in Vienna, and he could not make up the deficit in round two, finishing two over for the day to be tied in 120th position.

He had a decent front nine, going down in two shots at the sixth hole and firing another birdie at the par-four seventh.

But a nightmare triple-bogey at the par-four 10th was followed by bogeys at the 11th and 14th before he pulled one shot back at the 15th.

A six-time former winner on the European Tour, Malton & Norton Golf Club ace Dyson has struggled for consistency following wrist surgery two summers ago. He had been looking to build on a promising display at the Nordea Masters last weekend, where he finished in the top 60 and won nearly £3,800, but he hasn't played on many weekends this year and missed out again here.

Meanwhile, Felipe Aguilar held a two-shot lead at the halfway stage after following up Thursday's 65 with a 70.

The Chilean carded four birdies and two bogeys to get to nine under par and maintain his overnight two-stroke advantage.

The in-form Graeme Storm was second on seven under after mixing five birdies with two bogeys in his second-round 69.

Englishman Oliver Fisher and Swede Johan Carlsson were a shot back in joint third, while David Horsey was among the group on five under after firing a stunning eight-under-par 64 to equal the course record.
