SCARBOROUGH'S Jim Gordon won the latest ranking event at the Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship.

Gordon won 20 of his legs in 20 darts or less and beat Jaron Esteve 5-3 in the final, hitting three 180s in legs of 19-15-15-11 and 14.

He had beaten Neil Hart, Jonathan Foyle, and Mike Atkinson in the first round to set up a quarterfinal against York's Steve Vine who was playing his first competitive match for two years.

Vine hit legs of 17 and 20 darts only to go down 3-2 as Gordon finished in 17-17-18.

Gordon continued his form in the semifinal winning 4-1 against Simon Cass (19) with 20-19-17 and 16.

Esteve, meanwhile, won 4-2 against Graham Elvidge in his semifinal after beating Stuart Limbert 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

Elvidge beat Stephen Silver 3-0 and Cass beat Trevor Holtby 3-1 in the other quarterfinals.

From a field of 53 entrants, there were a total of 106 recorded legs of 21 darts or less.

Bridlington's Mark Hesletine led the way in the highest checkouts with a 154 finish and donated his £25 prize to York Darts Promotion's two charities for 2017 which are the Smiley Riley Fund and Prostate Cancer UK.

Holtby had a 150 finish followed by Lee Budgeon 147 and Rich Webster 117 and 107.

Twenty 180's were declared with Gordon, Limbert and Esteve all hitting three. Holtby added two and further 180's were scored by Jonny Scott, Jim Banister, Mike Atkinson, Ian Watson, Silver, Ian Atkin, Elvidge, Mark Lawrence and Tracy Marran.

Tom Dawson won the Furthest Youth (under 18) prize whilst Val Wilson, who had an 18 and 17 dart leg, claimed the Furthest Lady Prize.

David Calvert and Mike Atkinson won the Blind Pairs event beating Steve Vine and Graham Day 2-0 in the final.

Beaten Semi-finalists were Toby/Dave Leake and Jaron Esteve/Jo Hodges.

Ranking Event 8, organised in Association with York Print and Red Dragon Darts, takes place on Saturday May 22 at Huntington WMC.

Entries will be taken on the day with players needing to register by 12.30pm.
