IT was a weekend to remember for City of York II who celebrated a morale-boosting league and cup double.

On Saturday, in the rain, they beat Lindum II in a game of huge significance in the battle for premier division survival in the Yorkshire Men’s Hockey League.

They followed that up with a 5-1 victory over Leeds Adel, in the snow, to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the England Hockey 2nd XI Plate competition.

Goals from Rob Newton, Mike Carter, and Stephen Forrest beat Lindum. Alex Herriott, Michael Black, Stephen Paterson, Forrest, and Ben Foster were on target in the cup win.

In division one, York III endured a torrid trip across the M62 to Halifax. Heavy traffic resulted in the team arriving just minutes before kick-off. They lost 4-1 with Rick Dewhirst on target.

York I remain bottom of the North Hockey Men’s League premier division after a 2-1 defeat at Brooklands. Jack Purrington put York ahead but indiscipline contributed to their downfall.

York IV upset the odds in division two with a 7-3 win over second placed Brigg II. York V suffered a fourth defeat in a row when losing 3-1 at Leeds Adel II and are next-to-bottom of the table. Andy Thompson on target.

In division four north, York VI lost 3-1 at home to Leeds Adel III. York VII moved to the top of division five north thanks to a 7-3 victory over Acomb II.

Andrew Wilson, Cameron Mackay (2), James Hogg (2) and Rob Bradley-Consitt (2) scored for York who have taken maximum points from the last 12 games.

York VIII lost 2-1 to Leodis Leeds I. York IX lost 2-0 against Scarborough II at Huntington.

York Badgers maintained their progress with a 9-0 thrashing of Huddersfield. Luke Harbord and Lewis Francis both found the net four times with Bailey Kay adding the ninth.
