NEW Earswick lost 91-81 to Harrogate in the North Eastern Ladies League but at least won both away rinks to pick up four points.

Lynn Page, Jean Cann, Irene Warrington and Majorie Watson, from tying 2-2, won eight of the next 11 ends to go 16-6 up, and they were never behind on the way to a 21-13 victory.

Jackie Toms, Kaye Hutchinson, Carol Williams and Norma Davies took a 7-0 lead after four ends but only picked up a single at the next seven to go 9-8 down. They were later all-square at 12-12 before Harrogate collected a seven to lead 19-12 with five ends to go.

However, the Earswick quartet won the next four to level at 19-all and then won the last for a 22-19 victory.

At home, Denise Elliott, Gemma Broadhead, Margaret Morgan and Monika Morgan had the better of the first half of their match and, with the help of a five at the third end, led 15-9 after 13.

But Harrogate then picked up a four and a two to level. It was neck and neck over the next five ends - before Harrogate scored a two at the last to win 22-21.

Margaret Pearson, Kath Hardcastle, Annette Prosser and Sally Domville dropped a five and a four in the first three ends to trail 11-2 after only four but fought back to 12-10 after eight. Nevertheless, they scored only one single at the next seven to fall 25-11 behind and Harrogate finished the stronger and a seven at the 20th led to a 37-17 victory.
