NEW Earswick Ospreys enjoyed a fine win over North Cave Yellow as the Yorkshire Over-55s League division two fixtures resumed.

They won both away rinks - including a stunning comeback - and one of the home rinks for a 99-77 victory overall and 12 league points.

At North Cave, John Quinn, Bill Nuckey, Ray Mawson and Gary Jones led 4-1 after three ends but only scored two singles and a two over the next 12 ends to fall 17-8 behind.

However, they won the next four ends and, with the help of a six at the 18th, they went into the last all-square - then scored a two to win 20-18.

Howard Darrell, Alan Price, Dave Moorhouse and Bob Barrett trailed 7-5 after nine ends but won the next four to lead 15-7. The teams shared fours before Earswick won five of the last six ends for a 26-17 win.

At home, Dave Hutchinson, Doug Carr, Vic Thompson and Terry Bellwood led 3-2 after four ends but only won four of the last 17 ends. Each victory was a three, though, making the final score a respectable 23-16.

Dave Booth, Vic Wooley, John Taylor and Brian Birch led 11-0 after a six at the third end and remained in command. Cave picked up a five on the penultimate end but Earswick replied with another six to win 37-19.

York Knights were looking for a good start to 2017's Over-55s League division two fixtures - but opponents Selby edged all four rinks for an 83-67 win overall to go top of the table.

At Selby, York's Doug Mitchell, Noel Mallen, Trevor Scott and Ken Robinson had been level at 15-15 with five ends to play but lost 23-17, while Dave Snarr, Mal Rankeillor, Allan May and Ron Munro drew level at 9-9 with a four on the tenth end but could not follow up and lost 19-13.

The Knights' home sides were making good progress after five ends as Harley Wenham, John Headley, Dave Clarke and Mike Snowden led 9-6 and Chris Baldwin, Brian Fannon, David White and Gordon Walker led 6-4.

But Selby hit back and the Knights were left chasing the aggregate score again.

With three ends to play, they had a remote chance with both rinks leading leaving them eight behind overall at 70-62, but Selby instead stretched their advantage, the Knights left bemoaning a lack of luck.

Snowden's team led 19-16 with four to play but lost 21-20 while Walker's were 16-15 up but lost 20-17.

Tomorrow at noon, the Knights look to bounce back against North Cave Maroon.
