AFTER five games without a win, City of York Ladies II rediscovered their form and inflicted a five goal defeat on University of Leeds III.

Faye Chapman opened the scoring with a deflected short corner strike before adding the second after good work from Emma Bennett and Lily Rowntree.

Leeds put up a good fight at the start of the second half but were unable to find a way past York goalkeeper Alice Cullen. Vicky Skilton made it 3-0 following a knock-on by Corinne Wray.

Denise Shaw then made a great pass to Wray at the top of the D who scored number four.

Celia Wright wrapped things up with the goal of the game, a fine example of team play followed by a one-on-one finish.

The result lifted the team 12 points clear of York III who suffered a sixth consecutive defeat when losing 1-0 to Sheffield Hallam II. Goalkeeper Catherine Whitworth had an impressive game but was beaten in the second half by a deflected ball from a defender.

York IV moved three points clear of Slazengers II in the battle for division one survival in the Yorkshire Women's Hockey League. A 3-1 home victory this weekend avenged October's 4-0 away defeat.

Slazengers took the lead after ten minutes but Caitlin Rore equalised and Heather MacDonald put York ahead. Slazengers stepped up their game in the second half but a Lauren Susnjara goal at a short corner sealed the points.

York V secured a 1-1 draw when they travelled to mid-table rivals Leeds IV in division four north. Lynn Bowes on target.

York VI lost 2-1 at home to Thirsk III after taking the lead though Katherine Atley.

Bethan Williams was in brilliant form in goal but could do nothing to stop Thirsk's last minute winner.

York VII suffered a 2-1 defeat against Leeds V in division five north. The first half was dominated by York but they failed to convert possession into goals. Louise Flatters found the net but it was not enough to deny Leeds victory.

City of York progressed to the next round of the Mixed National Trophy with victory on flicks over Newcastle.

York started poorly and a lack of marking gave Newcastle an early goal. This stirred York into life and Robert Prentice equalised.

In a moment of madness, York goalkeeper Brian Ignjatovic rushed out of the D and illegally played the ball resulting in a yellow card. Richard Chandler substituted as kicking back and played heroically.

Newcastle found the net again but York responded with a Pat Herriot strike.

The second half was a closely contested affair with chances at both ends. Prentice scored for York but the game went to flicks and York won 5-4 in sudden death.

Selby I were held to a goalless draw by bottom club Airedale but remain fourth in the YWHL premier division.

In division one, Tadcaster Magnets I suffered a third consecutive defeat when losing 3-2 at Kingston-upon-Hull II. Tadcaster Magnets II won 3-0 against Airedale II in division five north.
