YORK schoolboy Tom Storey is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Ben Ainslie - the most successful sailor in Olympic history.

Storey, 13, has been selected to join the Royal Yachting Association’s National Junior Squad - who also set Ainslie on the path to glory.

A pupil at St Peter’s School, Storey only began sailing a few years ago but has risen through the age groups with flying colours, picking up trophies at the National Championships and the World Championships in Holland.

He now joins the RYA National Junior Squad, a group of the UK’s most promising young sailors, and will compete at championships all around the world.

Ainslie, who won medals at five consecutive Olympic games including four golds, is the organisation's biggest success story.

“I’m really excited to have come this far, as it means there’s a chance I could one day represent Great Britain at the Olympics," said Storey. "But I know I’ll have to keep working hard and hopefully claim a few more victories before that.”
