NEW Earswick Ospreys are still bottom of the Yorkshire Over 55s League Division Two following defeat against title contenders Leeds.

In the away stage, Jim Robinson, Dave Counter, David Moorhouse and Bob Barrett came from 0-7 down after three ends to lead 10-7 after eight ends against R. Chapman.

Despite dropping a four at the eleventh end, the teams were all square at 15-15 with four ends to play.

Both sides won two ends but Leeds scraped to victory by the narrowest of margins 18-17.

In the other away leg, John Quinn, Peter Waddington, Ray Mawson and Bruce Dobson started by dropping four singles against P. Holleran yet fought back to lead 6-5 after eight ends.

The Ospreys then restricted their opponents to only four shots at the next ten ends to take a 16-9 lead with only three ends to play.

However, they just failed to hang on as Leeds scored seven shots to earn a 16-16 draw so taking a three points to one and a 34-33 shot lead into Friday’s legs.

Despite scoring a three at the sixth end, Dave Booth, Ray Boyes, Brian Birch and Vic Thompson found themselves 5-17 down to I. Tindall after eleven ends.

They allowed their opponents only four singles in the last ten ends but still went down 13 -21.

Dave Hutchinson, Dave Thompson, Alan Price and Terry Bellwood won four of the first five ends to lead G. Howe 5-1 but they only managed to score two threes in the next eight ends to go 11-15 down after thirteen ends.

Unforutnately, things only got worse for the Ospreys as they dropped nine shots at the next two ends to trail 11-24. The home team picked up two more threes on the run-in to go down 18-28.

Final score: New Earswick Ospreys 64 and 1 point – Leeds 83 and 13 points.
