CITY of York II upset the odds against leaders Brigg and moved off the bottom of the Yorkshire Men’s Hockey League premier division.

Goals from Patrick Herriott (2)and Matthew Horn secured a 3-3 draw and goalkeeper Elliott Walker was on the top of his game against the division’s only unbeaten team.

Just over a month ago, York had been thumped 9-1 by Brigg but Saturday’s game was a totally different affair. Brigg led 2-1 just before the interval but Horn’s equaliser set up a gripping second half.

Brigg regained the lead before Herriott beat a player on the break and slotted the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.

York I put a stop to their six game losing sequence with a 3-3 draw at Ben Rhydding but are still six points adrift at the bottom of the North Hockey Men’s League premier division.

York III were comfortably beaten 7-0 by YMHL division one table-toppers Leeds Adel I.

York IV suffered a third defeat in four games when losing 4-2 away at Ramgarhia I in division two.

Josh De Silva opened the scoring before Ramgarhia had even touched the ball. Sam Robbins made excellent saves to maintain the advantage and Ramgarhia’s frustration brought a warning from the match umpire. But pressure eventually told and led to an equaliser.

York regained the lead when James Titterington slapped home from the penalty spot but found it tough against an aggressive Ramgarhia team. One home player picked up the ball and threw it at the umpire as Ramgarhia began to get on top!

James Wilson scored as York VI won 1-0 against Ben Rhydding IV in division four north.

York VII made it seven wins on the spin against Halifax IV in division five north. George Trowsdale (3), Andy Wilson (2) and Paul Rowntree found the target in a 6-1 victory.

They are level on the points in the table with York VIII who were 2-1 winners at home to league leaders Halifax III.

Hamish Broadbent put York ahead with a penalty flick before doubling the lead. Halifax got back into the game after a defensive error but York held on for three points. Defender Moritz Kholhas was awarded man of the match on his final appearance before returning to Stuttgart.

York IX lost 5-1 at home to Leeds Adel V in division six north. Richard Tanner-Smith scored the goal, assisted by Jack Feasby.
