ACOMB I lost 4-1 to Tadcaster Magnets I in Yorkshire Men’s Hockey League division two.

Matt Dickenson scored Acomb’s only goal in the defeat at Energise Sports Centre where both sides are based.

The Magnets took the lead from a penalty corner and all five goals were scored before half-time. Dickenson’s goal from a penalty corner drag flick made it 2-1 but, although Acomb enjoyed good periods of pressure, they were unable to threaten victory.

The result leaves Acomb three points clear of the relegation zone and the Magnets three points off the top two spots.

Acomb’s man of the match was centreback Pete Hilton.

Acomb II turned the tables by winning 2-1 against Magnets II in division five north.

Acomb were awarded a penalty corner after 19 minutes which struck a Tadcaster defender on the line. Acomb were awarded a penalty flick which was converted by Tom Brown. Captain Johnny Brown doubled Acomb’s lead before the interval from a short corner.

The second half saw both teams coming out of the blocks at a fast pace. Acomb keeper Richard Crossland produced key saves but was unable to prevent Tadcaster pulling a goal back.

Acomb’s man of the match was Richard Crossland.

Acomb’s Ladies moved eight points clear at the top of Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League division two thanks to a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Wakefield Wanderers I.

Still unbeaten, the only blemish on Acomb’s record this season had come in the away game at Wakefield – when they were held to a 2-2 draw. That result was put right on Saturday, however, and Kerry Woods was the star of the show scoring a hat-trick, with goals from Sian Klukowski and Jenna Allinson.

Tadcaster Magnets Ladies lost 2-1 at Huddersfield Dragons in division one.

In division five north, the Magnets II lost 2-1 at home to second placed Halifax IV.
