YORK boxer Danny "The Tasmanian Devil" Holmes will step into the ring at Leeds United's Elland Road Pavilion tonight for his third professional contest.

Light-welterweight Holmes will take on Tamworth's Matt Seawright over six rounds as part of a six-fight card promoted by Mark Bateson.

Holmes, who is trained and managed by Glenn Banks at York Masters boxing club, is looking to showcase his improvement and development before moving into the pro ranks.

Banks said: "Danny is improving all the time. His commitment and fitness levels are spot on and his sparring has been great."

Holmes expressed thanks to his sponsor YBS and the 60 plus York supporters who have purchased tickets for the event which cost £80.

Former WBO super-middleweight champion Steve Collins and former WBO cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson will be special guest at the event.

Meanwhile, York Masters boxing club hosted an evening of semi-professional boxing, licensed by 'Semi-Pro Box Ltd', at Huntington WMC last week.

Top of the bill was York's Jamie "The Jorvik Warrior" Warters who won the Semi-Pro Box Ltd heavyweight international title with a 40-35 points win against Malta's Mike Carter over four rounds.

Warters was always in control with his smooth boxing style and scored a first round knock down.

Jack Hyde, who also boxes out of the York Masters gym, won impressively with a second round stoppage of Blackpool's experienced fighter Wayne O'Neil.

Hyde delivered three knockdowns in the second round with stylish combinations to win the British light heavyweight challenge belt title.

Zak James and Tom Mennell also won their contests. James beat Hull's Steven Verril with a third stoppage and Mennell won on points against Liverpool's James Calverley.

York's Micheal Fafera, who boxes for Team Melton, won in style with a second round stoppage against Bradford's Ben Pickles.

Fafera delighted his legions of followers by lifting the Yorkshire area cruiserweight title.

Star of the show, however, was junior boxer Kai Witty from York's Big Baps gym.

Still only 12, Witty had too much skill and speed for Leeds' Tyler Dickinson and won on points.

James Bonerious also won on points against Liverpool's Sam Smith while Connor Wilson lost on points to Liverpool's David Calverley and George Tait won on points against Leeds' Kai Warren.
