YORK produced an excellent performance to beat Hornsea 61-52 in the Egham Trophy after the lead swapped hands several times.

With three ends to play, the aggregate scores were level 45-45 but York took encouragement as Nigel Macdonald, Melanie Brooke, Linda Harrison and Paul Mooring came from 11-10 down to win 15-12.

Joan Jackson, Carol Instone, Phil Parsons and Dave Stroughair picked up a four to seal a run of five winning ends and turned their score round from 10-5 down to 17-10 ahead.

The last two ends saw singles swapped and the final score an impressive 18-11 to the visitors.

In York, the games were close as Hayley Robinson, Sue Allen, Graham Brooke and Craig Newton led 11-10 with three ends to play. A single and a two offered breathing space but they dropped a two on the last end and the game finished 14-12.

Alan Vowles, Maureen and Helen Walker and Mark Clarke saw a 7-4 lead turn into a 13-7 deficit and they still trailed by that margin as the game went into the final end – however, a three gave them a respectable 17-14 defeat.

York Knights trailed Featherstone Sharks 55-22 at the halfway stage in Yorkshire Over-55s League Division Two and it proved to be decisive as they lost by the same 104-74 margin.

They had the consolation of winning both home rinks as Charlie Arnett, Noel Mallen, Dave Clarke and Mike Snowden came from 14-5 down after ten ends to win 27-20.

Harley Wenham, Dave Clayton, Brian Fannon and Gordon Walker led 23-15 with two ends to play and just held on as they dropped a six on the last to finish 23-22.

Away, Dave Snarr, Malcolm Rankeillor, Ray Wynn and Allan May were just 15-14 down with four to play but it was not to be as they dropped a six and two fours to lose 29-18. Doug Mitchell, Norman Ellis, Trevor Scott and Ken Robinson had a difficult afternoon as they slipped 33-6.
