ACOMB are still unbeaten at the top of Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League division two after a 6-0 win over Thirsk II.

Kerry Woods opened the scoring after good work by Sian Klukowski.

Thirsk offered little in the way of scoring chances and their only shot on target was cleared off the line by Sam Storr early on.

Jenna Allinson scored Acomb’s second goal before Klukowski made it 3-0 with her first of the season. Acomb took complete control and Woods increased their lead in the 44th minute from another short corner.

But for good saves by the Thirsk goalkeeper, Acomb would have scored far more goals.

Allinson completed a hat-trick with two further strikes to put the seal on Acomb’s best team performance of the season.

Both Acomb I and II were on the wrong end of 5-1 scorelines in the Yorkshire Men’s Hockey League. In division two, Acomb I travelled to second placed Brigg II and held out for 20 minutes before conceding goals from two penalty corner deflections.

The Tangerines turned round at the break and despite conceding a third penalty corner goal scored their own penalty corner courtesy of Matt Dickenson.

With Ryan Smith in fine form on the left defence and Acomb’s player of the match Stuart Baxter controlling the midfield with Carl Brindley, the home side continued to attack down both flanks and netted a fourth before the Tangerines struck the crossbar.

A Dickenson penalty corner struck the upright and Brigg broke to the opposite end to make it 5-1 in the dying seconds.

Acomb II lost their unbeaten record against Halifax III who are top of division five north.

The visitors established a 3-0 lead with two goals from penalty corners and one from open play.

Acomb’s Tom Brown netted from a penalty corner but the home side conceded twice in the second period.
