THE York Amateur Bowling Association veterans’ season came to an end with a Hull Road Park trio edging Dringhouses counterparts 17-16 in the final of the triples competition held at the Retreat.

The semi-finals which had been previously rained off after just four ends were completed with Dringhouses overwhelming Scarcroft ‘B’ 22-6 and Hull Road Park pulling off a thrilling 15-14 comeback victory over Dunnington.

The Dunnington rink of Phil Raines, Bob Crombleholme and Bob Barrett led Pete Durkin, Dave Elcock and Geoff Walker 11-6 after 12 of the 18 ends only for the Hull Road trio to get all square at 14 all and win the last end.

In an entertaining final, the Hull Road trio got of to flier and led the Dringhouses rink of Ray Calpin, Geoff Symons and Malcolm Thompson 10-0 after five ends and were still leading 16-7 after 12.

The Dringhouses trio won five of the last six ends but it was not quite enough as they lost match by one shot.

Geoff Oglsby, the association chairman, presented the trophies.

The Veterans League season ended with Wigginton ‘B’ winning division one and Haxby Road coming second.

Dunnington ‘A’ took the second division title with Dringhouses ‘C’ runners-up.

Hull Road Park claimed the third division title just in front of Bishopthorpe ‘A’ and Scarcroft ‘B’ finished ahead of Poppleton ‘A’ in the fourth.

In the knockouts, Wigginton ‘A’ beat Dunnington ‘A’ in the Maddison Cup final and Scarcroft ‘B’ won the Coronation Cup, beating Barbican in the final.

The Lord Mayors singles was won by Gerry Mackie.

The season ends on Tuesday with the annual champions versus executive committee match.
