YORK Thai boxer Danny Harrison-Little is the new ICO 66.6kg intercontinental champion.

Harrison-Little, who fights out of the Legions Gym in Clifton Moor, beat top American fighter Justin Greskiewicz, from Philadelphia, to win the vacant title last weekend in Birmingham.

He suffered a broken nose and tooth in the first round but still won on points at the end of round five.

"We knew this was going to be a hard fight as Justin had fought over 60 pro fights and 26 amateur fights," said Legion's co-founder and head coach Dave Phillips. "Danny had already won the ICO (International Combat Organisation) British and European titles so this was the next step.

"He trained really hard for this fight and all the hard work paid off," Phillips added. "Early on, Danny suffered a broken nose and tooth but he showed how tough he is by sticking to the game plan and out scoring his opponent."

Harrison-Little said: "I couldn't be prouder. But I owe it all to Al and Dave - they sacrifice a lot to train me day-in, day-out and I couldn't have done it without them."
