KNAVESMIRE Harriers put on a strong show in the well-supported York 10k race.

In the men’s race, Knavemire's Dave Smithers was first in the 40 category and took a top-ten finish overall with an excellent time of 34 minutes 35 seconds.

Then followed clubmates Stephen Maddison (36-08), Laurence Griffin (36-30), Alex Bedington (36-40), Jon Pinder (37-31) and Danny Chan (38-56).

In the ladies' race, Emma Yates was second overall and first ladies 45 in a time of 39-32. Cassie Holmes clocked 42-36, Maddie Foot a personal best 42-30, Helen George 45-04 and Laura Hallet 45-59.

In the Darlington 10k, Harriers' Jon Middleton timed 49-35, David Varley 54-20 and Kim Georginia 69-27.

Helen Leech, meanwhile, took on the challenge of the Swiss Alpine Marathon Marathon which starts in the town of Bergun, tackles some of the great Alps passes and finishes in Davos. She clocked seven hours 29 minutes.

In the Yorkshire Wolds Half Marathon, Knavesmire took the team award with Maddison finishing third overall in 89-13, backed up by Pete Downes (97-24) and Sarah Attwood (97-88).

In the Great Yorkshire 10k at Harrogate, Chan clocked 39-48, Ewan Kirk 43-56, Vivanne Fraser 54-29, Paula Walton 60-00 and Edwina Wilcox 61-02.
