FORMER York City Rowing Club ace Tom Ransley has been selected in Great Britain’s Olympic squad for Rio.

Ransley has been included in a 12-man sweep for the Games, from which the crew for the eight's boat will be decided.

Two rowers from that group will represent GB in the pairs instead, with that decision likely to be based on how the partnerships of Nathaniel Reilly-O’Donnell & Matt Tarrant and Alan Sinclair & Stewart Inness perform in the last World Cup series in Poland next week.

A further two men will be reserves, but University of York graduate Ransley looks to have a great chance of competing in Brazil having been a bronze medallist in the same discipline during the 2012 London Games.

Ransley was also part of the eight that finished fourth in the last World Cup Series event in Lucerne, Switzerland behind winners Holland, Germany and USA this month.

The full 12-man sweep is: Matt Gotrel, Scott Durant, Matt Langridge, Paul Bennett, Sinclair, Andrew T Hodge, Ransley, William Satch, Reilly-O’Donnell, Tarrant, Innes, Pete Reed.
