NEW Earswick Indoor Bowls Club got through to County Double Rinks finals day after seeing off rivals York at Huntington Road.

In the first game, Dave Imeson, Colin Ellis, Kevin Liddell and Bill Waldie matched Neal Macdonald, Alan Humphreys, Phil Parsons and Graham Brooke shot for shot in the early part of the game.

It was 8-7 to Earswick after ten ends but York won six of the next eight to go 16-10 in front after 18 in a game that ended 17-12 in York's favour.

Bob Elliot, Dave Elcock, Mick Head and Paul Dawson were 5-4 down after five ends to Nigel Macdonald, Tex Stevens, Phill Herridge and Mark Clarke.

Both sides picked up three shots in the next four ends but the match then swung in New Earswick's favour with Dawson's rink winning the next eight - scoring at six at the 17th - to lead 26-9.

They would go on claim their match and help the club to an overall 39-29 victory.

Finals day will be played at New Earswick on Sunday, February 20.

New Earswick Falcons failed to pick up a point when they took on North Cave Yellow in the Over-55s League.

At home Vic Reed, Dave Thompson, Alwyn Anderson and Gary Stockton led R Barker 5-2 after three ends but then only managed to pick up two singles in the next nine and trailed 13-6 after 12.

They won the next four, including scoring a four at the 16th, to claw their way back to 17-15 behind with five ends to go but they could only record two singles and lost 21-17.

In the other home game, Ray Mawson, Dave Toms, Dave Moorhouse and Brian Birch competed in a very close game with T Taylor. Cave led 7-5 after six and Earswick were 11-7 in front after nine.

They then lost the next five to trail 16-11 before staging another recovery and going into the last one behind at 18-17.

But they dropped a shot with the last wood.

At North Cave, Jim Robinson, Kevin Quinn, Jim Ellis and Kevin Potter were 12-2 down after seven ends and fought back to trail 12-10 after ten ends against P Ward.

Despite winning seven of the last ten ends, they dropped two fours along the way and went down 25-19.

In the final game, Howard Darrell, Doug Carr, Dave Hutchinson and Bob Barrett took a 4-0 lead after two ends against K Dibble but lost nine of the next 12 and were 19-9 adrift after 14.

They won four of the last seven but a dropped six at the 17th meant a 28-17 and gave North Cave all 14 points.
