NEW Earswick gained revenge for defeat to Scarborough in the Yorkshire League by beating them in the over-60s double rinks.

At home, Dave Imeson, Graham Lockwood, Ralph Tiplady and Bill Waldie trailed after seven ends but picked up a six at the eighth end and won six of the next seven to lead 19-7. They then hung on for 20-17 victory.

Away, Bob Elliot, Dave Elcock, Mick Head and Dick Osguthorpe matched their hosts shot for shot early on and led 12 -11 after 15 ends before taking the last six ends for a 20-12 success and a 40-29 triumph overall.

New Earswick play Hornsea in the next round.

In Yorkshire League division two, New Earswick lost 26-21 to Thornaby.

Gordon Fratson, Dave Clayden, Brian Gray and Andrew Fothergill scored a four at the first end and a three at the 12th and, allied to nine singles, they won 16-10 victory.

Dave Sykes, Dave Kermode, Tiplady and Barry Johnson, however, trailed 11-1 after seven ends and, despite picking up a five at the 19th, lost 24-13.

At Thornaby, Imeson, Colin Ellis, Kevin Liddell and Waldie scored a crucial four at the 16th end to go 15-14 up and hung on to win 20-16.

Lockwood, Rod Walker, Elcock and Head struggled early on but picked up nine shots in four ends to level at 12-12 after ten ends. Thornaby had the better of the second half to win 26-21, despite Earswick finishing with a four at the last.

New Earswick beat Leeds in the Yorkshire Ladies League.

Margaret Pearson, June Barker, Carol Williams and Margaret Moss trailed 13-10 after ten ends despite picking up a five at the fourth, but they then won nine of the last 11 for a 26-17 victory.

Denise Elliot, Moyra Ellis, Margaret Morgan and Monica Morgan had a very close match, tied at 1-1, 6-6, 9-9, 11-11 and 12-12 and were pegged back to 15-15 as Leeds picked up a three at the last.

At Leeds, Lynn Page, Jackie Toms, Sally Domville and Kath Sykes trailed 14-3 after 13 ends before winning five of the last eight, including a five, in losing 21-14.

Doramy Bellwood, Peggy Walker, Irene Warrington and Majorie Watson won 12 of their first 14 ends to take a commanding 23-6 lead. Leeds fought back but Earswick won 25-15.
