MISSED opportunities were rued by City of York Hockey Club men's first team after they were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with Timperley in the North Hockey Men's League premier division.

York broke the deadlock after some breakaway dribbling from Dan Ellwood, who then passed on to Freddie Heijbroek to slot home and they held the lead at the break.

They had the pick of the chances early in the second half, through Tom Feasby and Chris Wilson, but Timperley levelled after a large aerial from their defence, which York failed to clear.

The visitors were temporarily reduced to ten men after a late stick tackle but York could not convert from two short corners.

Wilson hit the post but York went back in front after Feasby's cross was deflected in by Ollie Fryer.

With only minutes left, though, Timperley converted a drag flick from a short corner to grab a share of the spoils.

City of York 2 went down 7-5 at Morpeth 1 in division two east.

Morpeth took the lead against the run of play and struck again soon afterwards.

York responded when Ollie Sanderson found the bottom corner from a penalty corner and they levelled when second team debutant Matt Guy's strong run on the counter-attack produced a cross to the far post for Dan Tompkins to sweep home.

Morpeth were back in front after the break before Sanderson scored his second to make it 3-3.

But the home side went back in front and plundered three goals in ten minutes to go 6-3 ahead.

Although Sanderson completed his hat-trick, it was soon 7-4. Tim Lister scored again for York with seven minutes left.

Thirsk & Malton 1 scored with just two minutes remaining to beat City of York 4 3-2 in Yorkshire Hockey Association League division two.

York scored through Russell Bowry, but Malton came back with two goals of their own.

Greg Sykes equalised just before half-time from a short corner but York were to suffer late heartbreak.

City of York 5 were always in command as they saw off Boston Spa 2 2-0 in division 4 north.

Tony Brimble struck twice from short corners in the first half and, while the odd Boston goal could have made for a nervy second half, York had enough defence to mop up any danger.

City of York 7 fell to a second defeat after being beaten 5-1 by Halifax 3 in division 5 north.

Halifax took the lead mid-way through the first half and debutant Bryce Tuckett had a reverse stick shot ruled out for being outside the circle.

A long hopeful ball bounced off an upright and left a simple tap in for Halifax's second goal and they scored twice in quick succession after the break.

York scored from a short corner through Harry Heyes and had several more chances without making them count before Halifax scored again from a short corner right on full-time.
